Tom Kertes
Tom Kertes is an American-Canadian essayist who lives in Prince Rupert, British Columbia. He was born in Ellensburg, Washington.
He immigrated to Canada in 2007 in opposition to torture in America’s “War on Terror”, became a Canadian citizen in 2014, and has both Canadian and American citizenships.
He was labour organizer from 1999-2015 and helped secure living wages for day labourers in Baltimore, achieve gender pay equity for early childhood educators in Vancouver, and advance economic human rights for public housing residents in Washington, DC.
Tom is currently a public school teacher (since 2015) and he teaches high school English and Social Studies. He’s worked with children from infancy to preschool as an early childhood educator and students of all ages as a public school teacher.
